Under the Sea

Wow, I can hardly believe we're already up to challenge #6 at
The new challenge theme is 'Under the Sea', and there is
no shortage of Aurora Wings images to choose from in this category.

I had a hard time choosing an image myself, but I finally decided on this
lovely siren of the sea. And the fact that there was a skull involved help
to sway my decision.

I started out coloring the 'Secret Kissesusing Copics.
I made blotches in blue greens to give her a spotted koi look. Or at least
that's what I had in mind while doing this.

My next logical and obvious choice was to add my favorite lime green hues.
I also started out by making blotches, and then just blended out to the blue greens.

Usually with this color combo, I go for orange as my next color to really
give good contrast and pop against the cooler tones. I decided to just stay in
the cool tones and went with purple. You can never go wrong with purple.
I added some air bubbles to the background so she didn't just look like
she was floating in midair.

When I think of magical mermaids, I think glitter and sparkles.
Always.

Lots of sparkle and glitter. Lots.

And here we have my all time favorite colors.
All together, in one magical underwater package.
This card is going to my SIL for her birthday, today.
She's not a super girly-girl, so I think she'll dig this card.

Thanks for dropping by today.
I do hope you'll make a trip over to the Aurora Wings challenge blog
and see all of the wonderful under the sea inspired DT projects.
Truly inspired works by all of the DT, you won't want to miss it.

RSD Freebies and a WW reminder

Looks as though I am a day (or two) late on this post,
but better late than never.
As is his usual, generous style, Rick is offering two freebies
for the next two weeks. A fairy image is available on the
Sparkle and Glitter blog, and the Grumpy Dragon
is available on the Airless Chambers blog.
The challenges are both Anything Goes, so why
not play along for a chance to win more free images?

Here is how I colored and used the Grumpy Dragon freebie.
I chose to color him in red and black with Copics.
I used some contrasting colors for his eyes and his tongue,
hoping they'd stand out a bit against the red and black.

I used some ancient dp from Costco that has silver thread stitched into it.
I used a new (to me) ATC and corners die from TH for the corners.
I worked in a (crooked) swirly die cut from a Memorybox die, jazzed
up with red Stickles.
I also managed to add this cool charm I have had for a
couple of years. I affixed it really shabbily, and will be fixing it soon.
It's a little too "rustic". It's crap. I gotta change it.

to claim your freebies. It would be great if you'd share your makes using the new
images and enter the corresponding challenges. The EDT really looks forward
to seeing what you create with Rick's awesome images.

I also wanted to remind you that there is still time to play along
at WW ATC for the current Red, White, and Blue challenge.

We're sponsored by 2CuteInk.
They should be called, "2Stinkin'CuteInk"!

I was trying for a "summer bbq at the lake" feel for this ATC.
Not sure why the right corner went wonky, but that's
handmade for ya!

Drop by WW and play along to win images from 2CuteInk

Did someone say, Freebie"?!

Everyone likes a freebie, don't they?
Crafters especially like freebies.
Today, Rick St. Dennis is giving away two free digital images.

Over at the Airless Chambers blog, there is this killer skeleton image.
Grab him, make a project using him, and enter it in the monthly freebie
challenge to win more free images. Win, win!!

I colored this dapper fellow with Copics, and then fussy cut him out.
I added a couple of bones from a previous "RSD blog only" available set,
and a square of this cool, self adhesive, "Magic Mesh" to finish it off.
I am really new to this magically adhesive mesh, and wish I had
applied it with some dimension. Next time....

Then, if you pop over to the Sparkle and Glitter blog, you can pick up
this beautiful "Desdemona" image.

I colored her up in purples, teals, and golds. She is such a beautiful image,
that I may have to color her up in various color schemes to see which one
I like the best. It's amazing how diverse an image can be by just simply changing the paint job.

I finally found the perfect opportunity to use one of my precious,
handmade by Andrea, sheer fleurs. It goes beautifully with this tag.

So how's that for some awesome freebies?
Make sure to get them, and then play along with the monthly challenges
on each blog for a chance to win more free images.
Please play fair, and don't share the images.
Direct your friends to the blogs so they may get the images and some inspiration for themselves.

Friday Fanfare

Wow! The month of February is already half gone!
Time sure flies when you get old. Damn.
Today I have four projects to share. Yeah, someone got her mojo flowin'.

These are the beginnings of my journal pages for the Dilly Beans
Red and Black challenge.

I absolutely LOVE the Dylusions ink sprays! They are so vibrant
and they blend so well together. I used the Postbox Red
and the Black Marble colors, and then used a cool rib cage stencil
from Retro Cafe ArtI spritzed the stencil with water, let the water
sit for a couple seconds, and then rolled a roll of paper towels over it to remove the inks. It's nice, right?

Same idea here, but used Retro Cafe diamond pattern stencil.

I used Dilly Beans #377 Martin's Heart image, and the Zombie sentiment
from Dilly Beans #375 Cute and Dark words set.
I also added the Zombie stencil from Retro Cafe Art on this one.
Looks so cool!!!

For this panel, I used #255 Framed Zombie Hearts 4, and another
sentiment from the Cute and Dark words set.
I couldn't help myself, and filled the heart at the bottom with
googly eyes. It goes with the sentiment, don't you think?

And now for something totally different.

The challenge this week at Sparkle and Glitter is
We are sponsored by Sweet Pea stamps.
I chose to use this gorgeous image from Ching Chou Kuik called,
The Hummingbirds.

I LOVE hummingbirds! I have a feeder right outside my living room
window so I can watch them feed and (unfortunately) fight for the feeder.
I collect their feathers as well. For what? I don't know yet.

This is another journal page. I used some home made acrylic sprays,
and my favorite tool, bubble wrap, for texture on the background.

Hummingbirds are quite difficult to color. It proved impossible for me
to capture their iridescence with Copics, but I tried.

Close-up of the varying textures of the painted page, the bubble wrap design, chipboard stickers, and the curled edge of the image.
I LOVE how this turned out!

This card is for my Grandma's birthday this Sunday.
She'll be a young 83, and doesn't act a day over 70! She is amazing,
and I LOVE and cherish her immensely. Another wonderful gift
given to me when I married my husband. We may not share the same bloodline, but she is definitely my Grandma!

I used all purples on this card, as purple is Grandma's favorite color,
and mine too. I LOVE this 1906 Hat image from Rick St. Dennis.
She is stunning in any color!

Please join us at Sparkle and Glitter and Dilly Beans for the current challenges.
Have a wonderful weekend.

No squares allowed!!!

The new challenge at Sparkle and Glitter is
Anything BUT a Square.
Sounds easy enough, but I found it kinda hard to not go the easy route
and just use a rectangle instead. I went the route of the round for my project.

I now see just how simplistic this looks and wish I had added more
schtuff to it to make it look more lush. Unfortunately, I ran out of ideas
after the addition of the bulls eye target. I also came to the conclusion that
don't have very many love themed sentiments either.
Hearts and mushy love are just not my thing.

I used the awesome "Night Flyer the Succubus" image from Rick St. Dennis.
She has arrows in her hair and I thought she'd make a wicked cupid!!!
I need to find an arrow to stick in the bulls eye now.
I printed the bulls eye from the Internet (Remington site), added a gemstone to the center, and glittered up the grapevine wreath die cut as a frame.

Please join us at Sparkle and Glitter for the new challenge of

Looks like the Mayans were wrong

Well, we made it! Still here!!!
I didn't put any real stock in the whole Mayan calendar thing,
but ya just never know. Stranger things have happened.
and the theme is
Last Minute Shopping.

I am not a last minute shopper, or a Black Friday shopper, or a day after
Christmas shopper. I do like to shop, but cannot stand the crowds and the
ridiculously rude and inconsiderate turds that fill the stores this time of year,
more than ever. I am not what you'd call a "people person".
All that being said, I do enjoy giving gifts and I do like them to be pretty when
they are received. Being sick for a few days put me behind in my gift wrapping duties,
so I opted to use a lot of gift bags this year to make things go a little faster.
As I said, I do like to shop, and I really love the candles at Bath and Body Works.
I stock up on their candles when they have good sales, and then I find that I have
a bunch of these cute shopping bags left over from my purchases. Usually, I just reuse them as they are for lunches, or to just carry schtuff in. They are very durable and nice little bags.

I decided to make better use of them this year, and to decorate them for
holiday gift giving.

to turn this shopping bag into a gift bag.
Very cute and resourceful, if I do say so myself.
I got to use a embossing folder I received moons ago
from fellow EDT member, Suzi, (thanks, Suzi!) and I coupled that with some
matching snowflake ribbon to finish it off.
One down, six more to go!

Thanks for dropping in today. I hope you stop by the
RSD Sparkle and Glitter challenge blog to see what the rest of team has been up to.

Happy Holidaze!!!

Twisted Holidaze at Sparkle and Glitter

Wow! Is it Friday already? Actually, it's almost Thanksgiving already?!
Where does the time go?
The theme is rather fitting for the new challenge at Sparkle and Glitter.
It's Twisted Holidaze!!
They are upon us!
I stepped outside of my well worn box, and made my first gatefold card.
I also had to make it hard for myself and had to do
the math for the dimensions I needed.
Twice.

I used the Creepmas tree that Rick drew at my suggestion.
You can thank me now. It's awesome!!!
After coloring the tree and it's "ornaments" with Copics, I went over all the
rat tails, feet, and ears with a glaze pen. I also went over the snakes with the glaze
pen to give them all a shiny effect. I went over the shrunken head strings with a Stardust pen.
Gotta have sparkly strings!!

The is one of my very favorite images called, Head Master.
Great tattoo imagery right there.
I added the Beware tin sign to act as the closure for the card.
I tried to make it appear distressed by lightly sanding it with a sanding block.

For the inside sentiment, I used Merry Creepmas BONES.
I flanked it with some EK border punched spider webs.

Not too bad for my first Creepmas card of the year.
Lots more to come!!

Please join us over at Sparkle and Glitter for all the Twisted Holiday fun!

Virtual Zombie Walk 2012

The day has finally arrived!
Today is the day that we, zombie lovers, get to show our love for the undead.
Now I show my love of zombies as much a possible all year long, but this
is a more organized and structured event, featuring TONS of blogs to check out.
The entire list of "walkers" will be at the end of this post.

Firstly, I am a crafter, and may even be considered an artist, if the wind blows just right.
I have handcrafted all of my Zombified offerings today.

This is a polymer clay zombie skull ornament. I have sculpted the skull from
polymer clay and then I added an acrylic wash to help bring out the details.
He is part of a set of Hallowe'en themed Creepmas ornaments I am working on.
The tombstones are also a part of that line of ornies.
They will all be available in my Etsy shop very soon.

This little putrescent beauty is a re purposed statue I picked up
at a local thrift shop.

I completely repainted her in acrylic paints, and then worked my "Zombie Magic"
on her to bring out her undead qualities.
Her eyes have been painted with glow in the dark paint so you can
tell if she's staring at you in the dark.

Lastly, I have made this killer Zombie Virus step card!
I've used three awesome zombie digital images from
the uber talented, Rick St. Dennis.
Today is also the "Spooky or Sweet Hallowe'en" challenge over at the

This image is called, Let's Pahrtay!
Perfect for the Zombie loving birthday boil or ghoul!

This is the Zombie Beauty Queen image, complete with
blotchy bruising and partially skinned cranium.

And this is your Classic Zombie.
Looks like he just stepped out of "Night of the Living Dead".

Side view of my card. I went with a step card to accommodate all of the
images I wanted to use. I think it turned out pretty damn cool!!

Thanks for shambling by today.

ZOMBIES RULE!!!

Sparkle and Glitter with Rick St. Dennis

Today is the day!
It's the very first day of the new Rick St. Dennis challenge blog!
The theme is "Anything Goes Sparkle and Glitter".
Easy enough, right?
Rick has a TON of brilliant images in his Etsy shop to choose from
and he even offered a couple of free images to play with over the weekend.
You don't have to use a RSD image to play, but it will earn you an extra entry if you do!

Choosing just one image was rough,
but after considering the challenge, I finally decided to color up a gorgeous

As attractive as the Spite is, I am drawn to the fish more.
He is gorgeous!!
I went with a non traditional color scheme in keeping with the
fantasy theme.

I tried to find some papers that would work and found some
pearl paper (from Walmart of all places) in a Colorbok paper pad.
I also used a strip of paper that I made using an Andy Skinner technique.
It turned out soooo cool, but doesn't show well here.
I added some rhinestone swirls to cover the sparkles requirement.

And then that brings us to the glittered portion of my project.
I used quite a bit of Stickles to accent the Sprite's hair and
to bring out the iridescence of that fabulous fish!

where you can find inspiration for the theme, and maybe even win some
free images from not only Rick, but Delicious Doodles is sponsoring a prize
as well!!
