Going to hell. Can I save you a seat?

DISCLAIMER: This is my blog. I am a person who fancies herself

pretty funny. Snarky. And even a flat out smart ass. What I create is

never intended to offend, but ultimately I have no control over

There, I said it. Or I wrote it. Whatever. It's out.

Yesterday was Easter, and in honor of the first zombie ever, 

I have created a small tribute in his likeness.

I was inspired to create said homage by the new challenge at

Haunted Design House - Going Green With Envy.

Yup. I went there.

It is no big secret that I don't lend much credence to organized religion.

I wasn't indoctrinated into a religion as child, and have never been able

to wrap my head around giving myself over to a higher power. 

 I do, however, consider myself somewhat spiritual.

And that works for me. 

Anyhoo, I found this guy at my local thrift store, and

after my giggles of insane inspiration subsided, I got to work

making him into the true zombie he was always meant to be. 

After several coats of various acrylic paints and washes,

he was complete. And far more interesting than the way

that I originally found him.

While straightening, and purging my workspace I happened

upon this tiny dancer. Also a thrift store find.  

After the official "Creepy Zombie Concoction" has been applied,

she is the star of the zombie ballerina recital.

Thanks to this challenge theme, I have been inspired to start painting the 

numerous statues and figurines I have been collecting. I have some cows,

a trio of babies, and even a Buddha that are all dying to be zombified and given

a new life. Most of which will end up in my Etsy shop by the end of the month.

The House that Cthulhu Built

Autumn is upon us, and a chill is in the air.

The leaves are turning, and the smell of pumpkin candles

are permeating the funk of summer. Well, in my house anyway.

I am an Autumn People!!!

I have been busy getting my Etsy shop stocked with unique, and affordable

Hallowe'en themed goodies to bring the joy of the season to you.

Even though I set out to create items to sell, sometimes I fall in love with a 

particular piece, and it never sees the shop.

Here is my latest love affair.

This creepy abode started out as a "paint it yourself" wooden house

that my son slathered paint on when he was about three years old.

I hung onto for sentimental reasons, mainly because I didn't

want to hurt his feelings, and because I am a hoarder of  pretty much, everything. 

I sanded it, then painted it out in gesso, and added different texture mediums.

These steps killed two birds with one stone, as the gesso and textures

served to make the house look cool and cover the previous "artist's vision",

so I had something of a blank canvas once again. 

After painting the house in my favorite shades of  Hallowe'en colors,

I decided to make a bunch of leedle teeny punkins out of polymer clay

to embellish all of the openings of the house.

After making and baking about 25 punkins, I was struck with a vision. 

I saw tentacles coming out of all of the openings in the house.

LOTS of tentacles!

I wanted it to look as if Cthulhu himself, were trying to break free

of the confines of this haunted house.

Mission accomplished!

I am thrilled with the outcome of this piece. It's one of my favorites to date.

I have some similar plans for other houses I have in my stash, but unfortunately

I can only make so many pieces each year. I may have one in my shop before

Xmas, but I have some other holiday projects to complete before I can begin

on a new one.

Odd? Why yes, yes I am!

This week over at HDH we have an inspiration photo to

set your mojo a flowin'.

I actually chose the photo due to my (un)healthy obsession

with the Science Channel's, "Oddities" series.  

I have a mad crush on Ryan Matthew, the bone guy from the original

"Obscura" shop in NY.

Ryan makes articulated skeletal displays,

and my favorite, "exploding skull" displays. Ryan also lives in the most

amazing home, decorated with the most amazing specimens, taxidermy, bones,

etc... I told you, I loves him.

Now I have added, 'hippo skull' to my long list of

skeletal wants. 

Maybe he'd just let me clean and cook for him for free.

No strings, other than the fact that I can run around and touch all

his stuff, ... naked.

Sounds like a deal to me, but selling the hubby on it will be

rough since I kind of have the same deal going with him.

Anyhoo,

I went the very literal route and just reproduced the inspiration photo

as an ATC card. It seemed a little easier than actually mulling through all of my

schtuff to find just the right skull and bottles to work with.

It looked way cooler when it was just a pencil sketch, but

I need to remember that "practice makes perfect".

I colored it with Copics and Distress inks.

Since I have been bitten by the ATC bug, I needed a place to keep

all of the little cards until I decide what to do with them.  

I love iced tea. It is my favorite beverage, and I go through

a box of my favorite tea every other week.

I decided to put this little box to good use to hold my cards.

I had to make it cool, so after reinforcing the interior of the box, 

I painted it a flat black with acrylic paint.

I added some metallic ruby accent paint  to appear like aged wood grain.

I added a few Hallowe'en border stickers that I have too many of, and added a

cool skull button to act as a way to open the box.

I then painted Distress Stickles in Antique Linen all over the entire box to seal

everything and give it a nice speckled, shimmery finish.

And lastly,  

Juan got a new hat!

Ahhhh, ...to be young again.

If I could do it all over again,  I would still marry the same man,

but we would be having a Hallow e'en or a Zombie/horror themed wedding.

My in-laws (the Pentecostals) would be thrilled.

My best friend's niece is getting married in a few weeks and

requested a custom wedding cake topper for her wedding.

Here it is.

I really am quite pleased with myself.

I had to really rein in my tendency to go really bloody.

It is for a wedding after all. And not even a zombie themed

wedding at that.

See, nice and subtle.

She loved her topper and I am glad. Now I don't have to give her a

wedding gift! Ha!

Since I was kind of on a roll, I went with the mojo and made some

more zombified goodies.

This was the second choice topper if Kara didn't like the first one.

"I don't care if you are a zombie, we're getting married!" 

I just love how his fingers are digging into the ground!

And yet he is still smiling.

We all know that Disney is not sacred to me (see this post),

so when I saw this unpainted Donald at a local discount store

I had to pounce!

Just what do you think he has in that tool box of his?

 I really like how this one turned out.
