Glittered Acetate tutorial

I love colored glass, stained glass in particular.
When I first saw this technique that is immediately what came to mind.
I had grandiose plans of making some incredible stained glass images, but I have found that some images work better than others with this technique.
For my very first tutorial, I chose this simple Hello Kitty image from StampitCrazy.
I used StazOn ink and a sheet of acetate I found in my craft room. You can use any kind of acetate from overhead transparencies to the backing from stickers.
I've got all of my goodies out.
I have chosen my glitter colors (Doodlebug), got my Glossy Accents, scissors, and an extra fine Sharpie to fill in holidays (blank spots) in the stamped image.
Once you have stamped your image with StazOn and let it dry completely (about 3 minutes or so), flip it over and start putting Glossy Accents on the reverse side of the image where you want your first color.
I have colored her bow and shirt orange first.
I like to let the glitter sit in the Glossy Accents for a minute or two to give it time to soak in and give a more solid appearance, before I dump it back into the jar. I also hold it up to the light to see if there are any light spots that still need to be filled in.
I use a small paintbrush to remove any excess glitter before I add the next color.
Adding white for her face and feet and hands.
Sometimes it is hard to keep the GA and the glitter confined to a small space.
No worries, just let it set up for a few minutes (not dried all the way though), and use a push pin or needle tool to carefully push the glitter and GA back into the desired space, or remove it completely and try again.
Finally, I add the black glitter for her overalls, and I let it all dry for at least 15 to 20 minutes.
Once it is all dry, you can carefully trim it out, and using either more
Glossy Accents, or another strong wet glue, adhere it to your project for lots of glittery gorgeousness!
Thanks for stopping by and if you decide to try this fairly simple technique, I'd love to see what you made!

Stamp it Crazy Anniversary

This month marks the one year Anniversary for the
Barb is also celebrating her Birthday, her husband's Birthday, and their
2nd wedding Anniversary.
Being the generous gal she is, Barb is offering up a ton of blog candy just for
celebrating with her (and making a card using SIC stamps).

Even though I relish the creepy side of life, I am huge fan of the Kitty.
I have been a Kitty worshipper since I was about 8 years old.
I used to steal quarters from my Grandma and go to the Hallmark store and buy
Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Little Twin Stars crap all the time.
My Grandma was a waitress, and she kept quarters in a dish in her bathroom(?), so I'm assuming she just thought it was the commode spirits taking their share.
I digress...
Barb has this great stamp of Hello Kitty and I used it to make some really cute Halloween cards for the less gruesome of my friends.
I used this technique of stamping on acetate and using glitter and Glossy Accents to fill in the color.
{Tutorial to follow tomorrow.}
One wasn't enough.
Two still wasn't gettin' it.
Aaahhh! Third time is a charm!

Happy (belated) Birthday to Barb, and
here's to many more Anniversaries to come!

The Burtonesque Dolls challenge #10 Burton Boys

This week over at The Burtonesque Dolls,
we were to create a project using a Burton character as our main image.
This week's challenge is sponsored by Stamp It Crazy.
I already have quite a collection of Stamp it Crazy images,
and decided to use the Jack Skellington image, and pair it with
the wicked iron fence, also from SIC.

I embossed the fence and then colored it in using SU inks and SU sponge daubers,
to help it blend into the background a bit more. When it was white it was just too much contrast against that cool, vintage wallpaper.
Yeah! I finally worked it into a project!
That stuff is kinda crazy to glue down. I think it's been rolled up a very long time.
Overall, I am pleased.
How 'bout you?

This is my second card, since Barb at Stamp it Crazy
was nice enough to provide us with this image to play with also.
I already had the Zero headstone stamp from another company (Stamp Happy),
so I popped it up on pop dots to cover the original, sillouette image of Zero's headstone.
I used a Nesties label, and mounted that on a Lattice Pendant.
I ran lime green, sheer ribbon through it for a little contrast and I also added
a touch of sparkle with a Sakura glitter pen.

LOVE the Martha Stewart edge punches!
This is the graveyard punch with some more glitter pen for highlights.
It's nice, right?

I shall call her, ...Astrid.

This weeks challenge over at The Burtonesque Dolls was to
create a something with a female who is likely to be cast in a movie
by Timmay himself.

I won this batty little 'B', at Barb's Haunted Design House.
She had a "Teen Angst" challenge, and this honey was the prize.
Isn't she a funky little number? She is just one of the great
bits of rubber available over at Stampitcrazy.

So, I colored her in with Copics, mounted her on some oval
Spellbinders, added a couple Sizzlits scrolls and blinged 'em up a bit.
I mounted everything on that cool wallpaper I have and viola (said like the instrument, not the French term - I'm funny.) cute card!

Stamp It Crazy prize swag

Barb, over at Stamp It Crazy really knows how to spoil a girl.
I won this swag from the 'Skull and a Sentiment' challenge,
a few weeks ago on the Stampitcrazy challenge blog.

Check out these cool charms!

And these neat-o buttons!
Plus, there was some cool ribbon, a leaf shaped mini-scrapbook,
stickers, flowers, foam stamp, pumpkin confetti, memo pad, and the two stamps Barb used to make her challenge card!
Talk about some booty!!!
She has a new challenge every week and she always offers up some great goodies to the challenge winner. And sometimes she hooks up everybody just for playing!
Oh, and did I mention that she has a great selection of Gothic and creepy stamps.Plus she has stuff for the norms too!

Stamp It Crazy - Skull and sentiment challenge

The latest challenge over at Stampitcrazy is to use a skull,
and one of your favorite sentiments.
I have a ton of skull/skeleton stamps, and quite few witty little
sentiment stamps as well.
But, I was so overwhelmed, that I chose to go the route
of the Torrente stamp (can't ever lose with these stamps!) and just see where it was going to take me.
I like where I have arrived with this one.
I finally go to use my new 'Heads' background stamp from Stampotique.
I used a faux bleach technique, just using Versamark and clear embossing powder.
On the tutorial I saw, they used glimmer mists to color the background, but I only have a silver mist, and that was not conducive to my color palette, so I used my new favorite ink (Tim Holtz Distressed Ink in crushed olive) to color the heads using a sponge dauber.
For my sentiment, I chose one of my favorite quotes from the brilliantly witty, Dorothy Parker.
This is the only one I actually have in rubber,  but it is one of her best quotes ever!
I have watched the film, "Dorothy Parker and the Algonquin Round Table" with Jennifer Jason Leigh, at least ten times.
There is just something about the wit and candor from that era (the 1920's) that I just find so endearing and intriguing.
And I am rather drawn to the art nouveau and the artistic style from that era as well.
Here is my skull.
It's a cute little puffy sticker that I have adhered to the inside of the flower.
After I chose to use the 'Kolosall' stamp from Stampotique, I figured she was creepy enough that I could get away with using a cute skull.
I love this card, and am still deciding whether to use it as a get well or a birthday card.
It could go either way.
