Kick Start Your Art Day 3

So far, so good! 

I'm back for day 3 of this fun art journal challenge,

organized by the cool chicks at Smeared and Smudged.

They give a daily prompt, and then you have 24 hours to complete a 

journal page and enter it to win daily prizes, and a killer rubber

grand prize at the end. Nice.

Today's prompt is

Easy Found Objects Background Technique.

Sounds easy enough, right?

I started my journal page using Dylusions Spray Inks.

I am loving how vivid the colors are, compared to my homemade stuff.

I never have a shortage of bubble wrap, so I figured it

was a good item to begin creating the background with.

Dylusions spray cap. Perfect for circles, bubbles, abstract dots.

I have a ton of these lying around. Most with paint on them. 

I can never seem to find the one with paint already on it, so I

grab another one.

I have also amassed a weird amount of air pillows used for shipping.

I rarely re-use them, but hate to throw them out, just in case....

So, I cut up one of the air pillows, smooshed it up,

dipped it into some Deco Art aqua glitter paint, and voila!

Instant art tool!

I pounced the smooshed plastic onto my page to create some

depth and added glittery goodness.

Lastly, I used a defunct credit card to smear some DA glittery orange paint

onto my page. 

 Once, the paint is dry, it gives a really nice, shiny sheen.

Oh, and some sparkle, too!  

I had this great digi image from Rick St. Dennis colored up to match.

I love these guys!

Added a witty sentiment from Ginger's House.

And some Orange Peel Stickles to match.

And here you have my journal page for Day 3!!

SBC Challenge #2 "Make it a Classic"

Today's challenge at Simply Betty Challenges is to create a Valentine's Day card

using black and white and silver (optional), with either

pink or red as an accent color.

You can't use both, but rather one or the other.

We can all thank the creative genius who is Eulanda for this little challenge.

I decided to work with "Sally" from

SBS's Sweet Gothic World Kids line. 

I really like the whole black and white color scheme with a touch of pink for

a nice pop of color. It was a bit hard to limit my use of the pink accent color.

I couldn't resist using pink for her eyes, but was worried she'd look like an albino rat

when I was all done. I think it looks pretty cool.

I just had to use a Glow Skull for the fleur center since I made

this one with a heart for an eye special just for Valentine's Day.

Hogs and Sketches January 2010 Challenge

I have been a fan of quotes for some time now. This Ward Cleaver gem happens to be one of my favorite. When I saw it in a SU catalog a while back I knew I had to have it. This quote and the one from Frankenstein ("Friend. Good.") is brilliant!

I really needed a quirky sentiment to go with these silly birds I received as a FREE digi from Hambo Stamps.

How did I get a free digital image from Hambo you ask?

Well, I just made a cute card using a Hambo image or sentiment, and followed their really helpful sketch (guest designed this month by my dear and uber-talented friend, MacKenzie). Then Tim and Monica pick 2 winners (NOT randomly I might add) who win either a digital image or some rubbah of their choosing!!

  

Well, here is my FIRST entry this month. Did I forget to mention that you can enter as often as you see fit for the entire month?!

I had a lot of fun making this card. I LOVE the silly birds and I think the sketch was easy enough for a beginner like me, and still has so many possibilities for someone with more layering and embellishment vision.

Hambo Hogs and Sketches challenge #3

Here I am coming in right under the wire for this month's Hambo sketch challenge.

Better late than never right?

I used the free digital image that Hambo so generously provided to participate in their challenge. They also have a free piggy image too!

I colored this guy in a while back, probably in the summer time.
Now is a great time to bring a little warmth and sunshine into my workspace since Christmas has officially taken over.


I have had this drink cube stamp for ages (years!!) and it has finally seen ink! Yeah! I think I need to throw more luaus or something so I can get more use out of this stamp.

In Hog Heaven

I was playing along with the Hambo Stamps "Hogs and Sketches" challenge last month and my card was chosen as a winner!!! Yea me!

Monica over at Hambo let me choose 4 stamps and this is what I received:

This is what I did with a couple of them.

I really like the image which is perfect for my little beach bum.

The sentiment is what sold me on the whole deal though.

I am entering this card in the November sketch challenge over at Hogs and Sketches.

Hambo Hogs and Sketches challenge #2

My dear friend, MacKenzie suggested I try my hand at this new sketch challenge blog over at Hambo. I am fairly new to sketch challenges and this one seems like a nice and easy way to ease into the concept.

Here is my submission for the Hambo Hogs and Sketches #2 Challenge.

I do find that having the layout already decided for you is nice. That way I can dork off trying to find embellishments and papers instead of stalling at the starting line.
