Angling for Some Love

Greetings!

Just popping in real quick with a fun little card 

I made for Valentine's day.

This handsome fella is from Hellgnome Death Digis.

I colored him using Copic markers.

I created the background using a stencil and some 

Nuvo Glimmer Paste in Black Diamond. 

I fussy cut the fish, added a lovely heart shaped jewel to his

dingly thing, and popped him up on foam dots.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Well, happy belated, Valentine's Day.

I made some Valentine ATCs for the current challenge theme at 

Stampotique Designer's Challenge.

The theme is 'Seeing Red'.

I took it kind of literally...

This is #6081 Mervyn.

He is perfect when only a head will do.

I used #6109 Daniel's Hearts for the background.

And here we have the lovely #6208 Jillian.

I added some pearl hearts to her eyes and then used Glossy Accents to give

her some cool shades. 

I used #6119 Hanging Hearts for the background. 

Lastly, I used #7232 ATC stamp for the back of my ATCs.

How have I been making ATCs without this stamp in my life?!

It's a Love/Hate Thing

To say that I don't like angels or cherubs would be a bit of a misnomer.

While I am not a fan of the angelics in the classical sense, I do enjoy them

once they are adequately "repurposed".

I was out thrifting with a friend a few weeks ago and she spotted this

delicious assortment of ceramic angel ornaments.

$2.00 for the entire lot of 10. Super sweet deal!

I knew immediately what I was going to do to each and every one of those

little fellas. I was gonna "fix 'em". And fix 'em good!

I started off with a nice coat of gesso to get everything ready for

what was to come... 

See?

All better!

I got out the polymer clay and began to sculpt a fleshy

heart over the existing one. I made sure it was beefy enough

to accommodate a big ol' chunk being gnawed out of it.

I also gave him a head wound. Might as well, huh? 

I made over his wings with a bit more clay. I ended them in points,

more like bat wings. I like them better that way.

  

Then he got the standard coats of Hauser Light Green

acrylic paint for his skin, and various shades of acrylics

for his remaining colored parts. I added some glittery pink

paint on the heart to make it purty. Same goes for the purty

red paint, too.     

Lastly, the whole caboodle got a wash of black paint

to help bring out all of the details, and a layer of 

Inka Gold in purple was added to the wings for one last

dose of dark angel glam.

This was made specifically for the current challenge going   

on this month at Haunted Design House. The theme is

It's a Love/Hate Thing.

For my King

Now just because I have pretty much denounced 

Valentine's Day as a whole, doesn't mean that I don't make

a card for my husband every year. He deserves it.

But like most things, I can't be serious.

I have no problem with being heartfelt, but it's gotta

make ya smile, too.

I just got some new Stampotique stamps, and since one of them

was the Daniel's Hearts stamp I thought it only fitting to use it

as a background for my V Day cards.

After stamping the hearts in a varied pattern, I used a

waterbrush and Distress Inks to paint them. I also added

splatters of white and black Dylusions ink to lend to the messy

watercolor painting.

Wolfie King kinda spoke to me and convinced me

he was perfect for my husband's kooky card.

I think he was right. Especially after coloring him

with Copics, adding Stickles to his star belt buckle, and 

topping off his crown with rhinestones. 

He is quite the stunner.   

I used my Dymo maker to make the sentiment, which is

a little inside joke. If you know me at all, you know I don't

suffer fools or weak men easily or at all. Nor am I one

to bow down to anyone, so this sentiment is completely dripping

in sarcasm. That being said, my husband is the closest thing ever to

a governing force of my fantastical realm. He pays the bills.

I had taken a bit of a break with Dilly Beans, but I'm back!

I had almost forgotten how much fun it is to create with 

Megan's wonderfully quirky images. They lend themselves to

so many occasions, color schemes, and level of crafter. 

The theme for the start of this (now) bi-weekly challenge is

LOVE AND HEARTS.

Now, you know I don't go in the for the really lovey-dovey schtuff,

so I created a sweet tag using #579 Frankie and his Bride.

I thought it depicted true love, no matter the state of decay.

How sweet. Makes my black heart tremble, ever so slightly.  

Ahhh, the sweet couple!

I colored them up with Copics, and embellished their eyes with

Glossy Accents. I used my tiny attacher to attach the eyeball ribbon to

the side of the tag. I am so glad I have that handy attacher/stapler.  

I stamped a sentiment from Paper Make-up Stamps, 

and a cling eyeball stamp from parts unknown.  

I also used my Goosebumps for the first time. It gives a cool,

almost toad-like texture to the project. Nice! I'll be using it

again very soon! Me likey. 

Lastly, I ran some neat, purple ribbon through the tag.

I can't believe I've never used it before, it's so nice to

work with.

Wicked Wednesday Valentine

This week, Wicked Wednesday ATC challenge has set the theme of 

Valentine/Love.

Now who doesn't need to work up a cute V Day card or lovey dovey

project this month? You can whip up an ATC in no time! And it's a great way

to use up those paper scraps, too!

Just a quick post to show off a cool

Valentine's Day card I made using

the killer Bat-like Wings from Stampotique and

the creepy little Heart Monster from Dilly Beans.

I was asked to make a VDay card for a customer through Etsy.

She pulled various samples of my cards from my blog and

requested elements from each project.

I hope she likes this one.

If not, I will be listing it in my Etsy shop.  

I am really digging these fancy tags (#3) from Spellbinder.

They layer up really well with my other non Spellbinder dies.

I used a rubber stamp sentiment from Paper MakeUp,

who are now almost completely digital. They still have a decent

selection of deeply discounted rubber images to choose from

under their Specials tab though.   

When I received the Bat Wings from Stampotique,

I colored up like six pairs using different color schemes.

Now I think every image needs cool bat wings!

The Heart Monster from Dilly Beans looks fabulous

sporting the red pair of wings. And a bit of a bloody face too!  

More die cut mania with vintage silver wallpaper moon and skull border.

The MS bat fence punch is a favorite of mine. 

I added some half pearls and some Stickles for a little

manly tolerable bling.

"You have stolen my heart" on the outside,

"Um, I'm gonna need that back" on the inside.

I like it, but I hope this is what my customer had in mind.

SBC #4 Valentine Birthday Color challenge

This week at Simply Betty Challenges

we are making Valentine Birthday cards with

a color challenge of black, turquoise, and pink.

This color combo totally reminds me of "Valley Girl" or 

"Pretty in Pink". Very 1980's. LOVE it!

I seem to be having a problem with my black hair coloring.

Maybe my pens are running out? They seem to gum up a bit

when I am trying to blend, and then the blender pen removes the

color in blotches, not smoothly. I'm just gonna blame it on the pens.

So I mounted the main image of Valentine Betty onto

scalloped circles and then used some destash of those

square brads. I also used some pink webbed ribbon and

rubbed glitter into the exposed adhesive. Fancy.

Simply Betty Sketch Challenge

This week's challenge at Simply Betty is a killer sketch from

that crazy talented cat lady, Cheri/Graphicat.

I decided to use "Devil Rio" on this one.

I didn't ever get a chance to use this image at Hallowe'en,

but thought she'd make a really cute Valentine's Day/love card.

I've been having really good luck with my coloring when I use this

combo and I figured why mess with a good thing?

I do think I am getting, "pinked out" though.

These poison tickets are the only tickets I own. They are part of a 

really cool digital sheet I have with apothecary labels that I got on

Etsy a long time ago. I colored the wording in with coordinating Copics. 

I really like how these green gems pop. I went over the already

green gems with my FYG2 Copic to give them a nice fluorescent glow.

I am quite pleased with this card and I have Cheri to thank for

creating such a great sketch to inspire me.

Rio in Love

I am actually starting to get into the whole Valentine thing.

Maybe it has something to do with the fabulous images from

Simply Betty Stamps.

Or maybe it's the awesome digital papers from

Crafty Chaos Designs.

Either way, I made a really cute card using bits from both places.

Rio is one of the Valentine Emos over at Simply Betty Stamps.

LOVE the tongue hangin' out!

Notice that skully background paper? It is just one of six cool designs

in a digi set called, "Skullentine", from Crafty Chaos Designs.

I got a little fancy and broke out with the fleurs and then I added

heart eyelets to the centers and then added a rhinestone to the center of the eyelet.

Fancy.

I am not a "lacey" kinda gal and as a result I don't have much lace

lying around to use on my cards. I did see a technique on a friend's

blog where she used her lace punch on some card stock and

then crumpled it up giving the impression of ruffled lace.

I think it worked.  

Nothing special with the coloring. Same ol' same ol'.

I used Copics and I tried to match that funky green heart color to the

actual color that comes in the box of those Conversation Hearts.

I think I came pretty close.

Iracebeth and Mirana are sisters who couldn't be more different: while the White Queen is kind and gentle and is loved by everyone, the Red Queen's answer to everything is "Off with their heads!"

SBC Challenge #2 "Make it a Classic"

Today's challenge at Simply Betty Challenges is to create a Valentine's Day card

using black and white and silver (optional), with either

pink or red as an accent color.

You can't use both, but rather one or the other.

We can all thank the creative genius who is Eulanda for this little challenge.

I decided to work with "Sally" from

SBS's Sweet Gothic World Kids line. 

I really like the whole black and white color scheme with a touch of pink for

a nice pop of color. It was a bit hard to limit my use of the pink accent color.

I couldn't resist using pink for her eyes, but was worried she'd look like an albino rat

when I was all done. I think it looks pretty cool.

I just had to use a Glow Skull for the fleur center since I made

this one with a heart for an eye special just for Valentine's Day.
